Scarborough Council's Building Design Awards Competition

The Opera House Casino, designed by Frame International won the award for the competition's "Best Non-Residential New Building" category. More than 40 entries were submitted for the competition, which is held every two years and is backed by the Evening News and Whitby Gazette. It started 10 years ago and initially was confined to the town of Scarborough but the interest in the competition meant it was extended to cover the whole of the borough outside the national park.

Nikolas Shaw, owner of the casino with his wife Becky, said: "We're delighted to have had this award bestowed upon us for the design of the casino and we would like to say a huge thank you to Yaron Frame, managing director of the architects Frame International. We hope this will be the solid foundation with which to move forward into phase two of the development of North Street car park."
